No Smoking

Berbicara mengenai anti-rokok, seringkali kita hanya menggunakan ayat-ayat yang mengemukakan bahwa tubuh kita adalah Bait Suci Nya seperti:

"Tidak tahukah kamu, bahwa kamu adalah bait Allah dan bahwa Roh Allah diam di dalam kamu ? Jika ada orang yang membinasakan bait Allah, maka Allah akan membinasakan dia. Sebab bait Allah adalah kudus dan bait Allah itu ialah kamu" (1 Korintus 3:16-17)

"Atau tidak tahukah kamu, bahwa tubuhmu adalah bait Roh Kudus yang diam di dalam kamu, Roh Kudus yang kamu peroleh dari Allah, - dan bahwa kamu bukan milik kamu sendiri ? Sebab kamu telah dibeli dan harganya telah lunas dibayar: Karena itu muliakanlah Allah dengan tubuhmu!" (1 Korintus 6:19-20) 

Ternyata, saya mendapatkan ayat lain yang menjelaskan bahwa jauh sebelum rokok itu populer, Alkitab sudah mencatat bahwa itu adalah perbuatan jahat:

"Sungguhpun kejahatan manis rasanya di dalam mulutnya, sekalipun ia menyembunyikannya di bawah lidahnya, menikmatinya serta tidak melepaskannya, dan menahannya pada langit-langitnya, namun berubah juga makanannya di dalam perutnya, menjadi bisa ular tedung di dalamnya" (Ayub 20:12-14)

When it comes to anti-cigarette thingy, it is common to support the argument with bible verses which tells us to maintain the sacredness of our body (His Holy Temple). Perhaps some people only know those. For examples:
 

"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple" (1 Corinthians 3:16-17) 

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) 

Recently I found another Bible verse, which was written far before smoking is popular, that note smoking is an evil action.

"Though evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, though he cannot bear to let it go and lets it linger in his mouth, yet his food will turn sour in his stomach; it will become the venom of serpents within him" (Job 20:12-14)
